Newly appointed CAPS United coach Ian Bakala has made it clear that his immediate priority is to steer the club away from the relegation zone in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL).

This ambition follows a disappointing start to the season for the Harare giants, who currently occupy 14th position on the league table.

Over the weekend, a 1-1 draw against Herentals saw CAPS United move to nine points, just one point above the relegation spots and two points clear of bottom-placed Kwekwe United.

Speaking to the media after his maiden match, Coach Bakala stated that while it’s too early to establish long-term goals, his initial focus will be on securing consistent performances and ensuring the team climbs out of the drop zone as the season progresses.

“It’s still early days to be talking about long-term goals,” Bakala stated. “My initial focus is very clear: we need to start putting in consistent performances and ensure that this team climbs out of the relegation zone as the season progresses.”

Bakala’s next challenge in charge of Makepekepe will be a derby clash against struggling Dynamos FC this coming weekend.
