The City of Bulawayo has issued a formal notice advising residents of ongoing water supply disruptions caused by a major pipeline burst between Criterion Water Treatment Works and Magwegwe Reservoir.

According to Town Clerk Christopher Dube, the incident occurred on Thursday, 26 May 2025, affecting one of the city’s main transport pipelines.

“This critical pipeline supplies potable water to all western suburbs and the Magwegwe Reservoir. The damage has disrupted water delivery to these areas,” he said.

He added that the situation was worsened by previously scheduled maintenance at Magwegwe Reservoir compartments, which was completed on 31 May 2025.

Repair work is currently underway.

“We are acquiring the necessary materials and taking safety precautions, as the burst created a roadside embankment. Construction of a support embankment is in progress to allow safe access for our teams,” said Dube.

Affected suburbs include: Cowdray Park, Magwegwe, Njube, Mpopoma, Luveve, Nketa 6–9, Emganwini, Nkulumane, Bellevue, Newton West, and others.

The City expects to restore full water supply by Monday, 9 June 2025.

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and appreciate the patience and cooperation of our residents during this period,” Dube said.
