Warriors defender Devine Lunga delivered a stellar performance on his debut at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup this morning, playing an impressive role in Mamelodi Sundowns’ 1 nil victory over South Korean club Ulsan HD in their opening Group F encounter.

Lunga, starting in the Mamelodi Sundowns’ first eleven, played the entire 90 minutes, demonstrating his defensive prowess and strong work ethic.

His performance was crucial in neutralising Ulsan’s attacking strategy, which frequently targeted his flank, particularly through the dangerous runs of winger Um Won-sang.

A standout moment came in the first half when Lunga executed a vital goal-line clearance, denying Ulsan a certain goal and preserving Sundowns’ lead. His defensive dominance was further highlighted by the fact that he recorded the highest number of tackles in the entire match.

The win propelled Sundowns to top of Group F above favorites Borrusia Dortmund and Brazil’s Fluminense who played out a goalless draw in their opening game.
