Zimbabwe defender Divine Lunga has written his name into the history books after being named in the Club World Cup Team of the Week, becoming the first Zimbabwean player to ever achieve this honour on the global stage.

Lunga, who plays for South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns, was outstanding in their recent 1 nil victory over South Korean side Ulsan HD, showing brilliance in defence and composure under pressure.

His consistency at the back saw him line up alongside global stars like Nicolás Otamendi, Sergio Ramos, and Marcos Acuña in the team released by tournament broadcaster DAZN.

Lunga’s inclusion is a proud moment not only for Zimbabwe, but also for the South African champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, as they continue to make their mark on the world stage.

The Club World Cup, currently in full swing, has featured some of the biggest names in global football and for Lunga to stand out among elite defenders from top European and South American clubs speaks volumes about his impact.

The rest of the team includes attacking powerhouses such as Jamal Musiala from Bayern Munich, Vitinha from PSG, and Kaolo Muani of Juventus.
