The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has banned officers in uniform from entering betting shops or participating in casino activities.
The directive was issued by National Police Spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, during the National Forum on Responsible Betting held at Alex Sports Club in Harare.
The forum, attended by key stakeholders in Zimbabwe’s betting sector, was organised in partnership with the Lotteries and Gaming Board and the Ministry of Home Affairs. It aimed to promote responsible betting and address rising concerns over gambling addiction, fraud, and unregulated operations.
Commissioner Nyathi raised concern over recent social media images showing uniformed officers placing bets, saying such conduct undermines police integrity and violates operational protocols.
The event ended with a call for stronger regulation, ethical behaviour, and stakeholder cooperation to ensure the betting industry supports national development while minimising social harm.
