A two-week disciplinary bootcamp aimed at tackling indiscipline and drug abuse among youths is set to kick off in Nyamayendlovu from the 10th to the 23rd of August.
The initiative, organised by Coast Guards Security in partnership with Childline Zimbabwe and Social Welfare, aims to help young people struggling with indiscipline, substance abuse, and peer pressure.
Speaking to Skyz Metro FM, Coast Guards Managing Director Mr Shawn Ndebele said, the bootcamp is a direct response to the growing concerns from parents and communities about teenagers who are unruly, unmotivated, or influenced by peer pressure.
He said the camp won’t just focus on enforcing discipline, but will also see participants learn lifelong leadership skills, build self-confidence, develop teamwork, and embrace accountability and responsibility.
“The camp will address challenges faced by parents with unmotivated or troubled children. It’s not just about enforcing discipline, we are equipping the youths with lifetime leadership, teamwork and accountability skills,” said Mr. Ndebele.
Mr. Ndebele also highlighted that the program is open not only to troubled youths, but also to any young person willing to grow personally and mentally.
He also noted that similar programs have already been running successfully in countries like South Africa, and Bulawayo is now stepping up to catch up with global best practices.
Participation comes at a fee of US$200, and registration is already in progress at the Coast Guards Security offices.
