Two Premier Soccer League (PSL) clubs have attracted the wrath of the league’s governing body following the abandonment of their respective fixtures in May and June.

Chicken Inn FC were the first to feel the heat after their May 23 clash against Scottland FC at Rufaro Stadium was abandoned under controversial circumstances. The PSL Disciplinary Committee found the club guilty of causing the disruption and awarded the match to Scottland FC with a 3–0 scoreline. The Gamecocks were also slapped with a US$5,000 fine.

Player George Majika was also sanctioned for his role in the incident and fined US$1,000.

Weeks later, Dynamos FC followed suit with their own drama-filled exit during a June 22 fixture against FC Platinum at Mandava Stadium. The Harare giants walked off the pitch in the 75th minute, protesting referee Qedisani Dirwai’s penalty decision after Emmanuel Jalai was judged to have fouled Oscar Bhebhe in the box.

The PSL awarded FC Platinum a 3–0 victory, fined Dynamos US$5,000, and sanctioned head coach Saul Chaminuka with a US$4,000 fine and a two-match technical bench ban.

But beyond the financial penalties, the disciplinary rulings have added real pressure to both teams’ survival chances.

Dynamos currently sit 17th on the log with 15 points, just one place and a few breaths above bottom placed Kwekwe United. Meanwhile, Chicken Inn are in 14th place with 23 points, only eight ahead of Dynamos.

The recent forfeiture has deepened Dynamos’ relegation woes, while Chicken Inn’s position, once appearing relatively safe, is now becoming precarious. Their upcoming head-to-head clash could prove pivotal more than just three points will be on the line; it could be a defining moment in the fight to stay afloat.

With the relegation zone tightening and only 13 matches left to secure safety, both clubs are under immense pressure to deliver results on the pitch, not walk away from them.

In a strong message accompanying its ruling, the PSL reminded clubs:

“The League reminds all clubs, players and officials of their obligation to uphold the league’s rules and regulations. Any actions that disrupt fixtures, undermine the integrity of the competition or bring the game into disrepute will not be tolerated.”
