Renowned Zimbabwean contemporary traditional musicians, Busi Ncube and Carmen Hwarari, are set to make a long-awaited return to the local stage with a live performance at the Bulawayo Amphitheatre on Wednesday, 14 August 2025.
The show, titled “Listen,” is a musical production that has already captivated audiences in Malawi and Harare. Now, for the first time, it makes its way to Bulawayo and with it, a powerhouse line-up that includes Busi Ncube, Derrick Mpofu, and the celebrated dance and theatre ensemble IYASA.
In an interview with Skyz Metro FM, Carmen confirmed that preparations are in full swing.
“This show will feature Busi Ncube, Derrick Mpofu, and IYASA. It starts exactly at 6 o’clock, and it’s going to be a great family show,” she said.
“Listen” is more than just a concert. It is a multisensory experience combining music, monologues, poetry, and storytelling to explore African identity, heritage, and the power of listening — both to ourselves and to each other. The production has been described as a “cathartic celebration” that seeks to inspire introspection, cultural appreciation, and unity.
Speaking ahead of the show, legendary singer Busi Ncube emphasized the emotional weight behind the performance.
“We plead with you all to come with your family, as there will be diverse cultures, languages, and music. That makes it a real family show. Get your tickets for just $5 at the Bulawayo Art Gallery,” she said.
Ncube added that the performance marks a deep reconnection with their artistic roots and a celebration of Zimbabwean talent both at home and in the diaspora.
The show promises a rare opportunity for local audiences to engage with Zimbabwe’s rich traditional and contemporary musical.
