Bulawayo residents were left shaken on Sunday after two armed robberies in Emthunzini and Pumula South, with criminals making off with cash, a cellphone, and a vehicle.

Bulawayo Provincial Police deputy spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Thandekile Ndlovu, told SkyzMetro FM that a 54-year-old woman in Emthunzini was attacked by three armed men wielding guns and an axe. The robbers forced their way into her home, searched the premises, and escaped with six US dollars.

Later the same evening, in Pumula South, a 34-year-old man was targeted after parking his Honda Fit. Three armed men threatened him and his wife, stole a cellphone and six thousand US dollars, and drove off in his vehicle.

Assistant Inspector Ndlovu urged residents to avoid keeping large sums of money at home, to use formal banking channels, and to strengthen neighbourhood watch initiatives.

Police investigations are ongoing.
