In a significant development for Zimbabwe’s media landscape, the Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Dr. Omphile Marupi, addressed a media training workshop in Kadoma today. The event, organized by the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe, or PRAZ, focused on promoting factual reporting, particularly in the public procurement sector.

Speaking at the Kadoma International Conference Centre, Minister Marupi emphasized that a free and responsible media is vital for good governance and national development. He urged journalists to act as “gatekeepers of truth,” stressing the importance of ethical, factual, and responsible reporting to combat misinformation.

The Minister also highlighted recent key milestones in Zimbabwe’s procurement sector. These include the launch of the Electronic Government Procurement (eGP) System on October 23, 2023, which is designed to enhance transparency and reduce corruption. He also noted the launch of the Methodology for Assessing Procurement Systems (MAPS) on August 20, 2025, which helps align Zimbabwe’s frameworks with international standards.

Minister Marupi praised PRAZ for its achievements since its establishment in 2017, including the training of over 12,000 procurement officers and bidders, and the review of over 7,500 special procurements. He concluded by urging the media to cover the upcoming 5th General Assembly of the Africa Public Procurement Network, set for Victoria Falls from November 11th to 14th, 2025
