The National University of Science and Technology (NUST) has highlighted the need to empower youth with skills and tools to actively participate in the evolving AI and robotics space.
Speaking in an interview with Skyz Metro, Pro Vice Chancellor Professor William M. Goriwondo highlighted NUST’s efforts through its “Aspiration Deve Robotics Centre”, which aims to empower students with practical skills in robotics and coding.
“The idea behind our Aspiration Deve Robotics Centre is to have gadgets which are robotic arms which can be coded using computers to then do actions like what humans are doing,” said the proffesor.
He further noted the value of robotics in hazardous environments, where robots can operate safely in conditions unsuitable for humans.
“The robots also have found application in areas where it’s difficult for humans to go. You can send a robot because of that strength”, he said citing Bakers Inn, where robotic arms handle bread packaging with minimal human involvement.
Professor Goriwondo further stressed the need to bridge the gap between youth’s tech-savviness and practical AI application, saying the university’s Technovation Centre would offer awareness, training, and hands-on gadgets to spark innovation.
He called on students and researchers at NUST to invest in AI-related research, underscoring that artificial intelligence is “here to stay” and presents vast opportunities for development.
