Prince Ncube, popularly known as “Dr Gasolo”, a passionate Bulawayo-based artist and cultural activist, is set to begin a bold initiative dubbed the “Long Walk to Success” a solo campaign walk from Gwanda to Bulawayo aimed at promoting the recognition and support of local artists in Zimbabwe.
Dr Gasolo is expected to commence the walk on Tuesday 16 September and reach Bulawayo by 20 September. Speaking in an interview with Skyz Metro FM ahead of the campaign, he said the motivation behind this symbolic journey stems from the lack of opportunities for local creatives.
“Most of our talented artists die without reaching their full potential due to limited support. This walk is a call to action we need to uplift our own,” said Dr Gasolo in an interview.
He criticized the growing trend of hiring foreign artists for local events, stating that this deprives Zimbabwean creatives of platforms and resources that could help build the local arts industry.
“We give money to foreign artists, and that money goes on to develop their countries. Meanwhile, our own creatives are sidelined,” he added.
Dr Gasolo called on local business-people and government officials to invest in Zimbabwean talent by offering more platforms, funding, and exposure.
