The iconic Battle of Zimbabwe takes on a new twist this weekend, a relegation fight, as struggling giants Highlanders and Dynamos clash at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.
With just four games to go in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, both sides are desperate for points to stay in the top flight.
Highlanders sit just above the drop zone in ninth place with 35 points, a position many fans did not expect at the start of the season. Dynamos, meanwhile, are only two points behind on 33, sitting in 14th place and surviving by goal difference ahead of Bikita Minerals.
Bosso will be hoping to extend their recent dominance over DeMbare. They completed a league double last season and are unbeaten in their last three meetings, including a goalless draw in this season’s first league encounter, that was played at Rufaro Stadium.
Dynamos, however, have found form under former Highlanders coach Kelvin Kaindu. Since his arrival, the Glamour Boys are unbeaten in eight matches across all competitions, winning five, drawing three, and earning a Chibuku Super Cup semi-final berth.
For Highlanders, the challenge is to end a four-match winless league run in front of their passionate home crowd at Emagumeni.
With both teams fighting for survival, Sunday’s encounter promises high drama, tension, and plenty of emotion, a true Battle of Zimbabwe with everything to play for.
