Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, Dr Edgar Moyo, says government is intensifying efforts to create more decent work opportunities and ensure labour systems respond to the real needs of the economy.

Speaking at the Ministry’s Strategic Planning Workshop in Bulawayo recently, Dr Moyo said labour market reforms, digital innovation, and modernised service delivery are key to national development.

“The ministry’s key transformation priorities in the next five years will be public service modernization and digital transformation.

“We are moving toward preparedness, automated and integrated government systems to improve efficiency and service delivery in every ministry, province and district,” highlighted the minister.

He outlined plans to operationalise the Labour Market Information System (LMIS)a tool aimed at tracking skills supply, employment demand, and labour trends.

A functional LMIS will enable us to accurately track labour market trends, skills supply and employment demand.

This will ensure that our skills development systems are aligned to real economic needs, thereby improving employability and reducing unemployment among the people,” stated Moyo.

Dr Moyo added that over the next five years, the Ministry will prioritise public service modernisation, including automated systems to boost efficiency from national to district level.

The Strategic Planning Workshop brought together ministry officials, partners, and stakeholders to set targets in line with Vision 2030 and NDS 2.
