The Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP) has marked Human Rights Day with a call for stronger protection of basic freedoms for all citizens across the country.
Held under the theme “Human Rights: Our Everyday Essentials,” ZPP reminded Zimbabweans that rights such as dignity, equality, freedom of expression and access to a clean environment are guaranteed in the Constitution and must be upheld every day.
The organisation highlighted in a statement that it recorded more than 1,200 human rights violations in 2025, affecting over 44,000 people, including women, men and people with disabilities.
The organisation also raised alarm over poor service delivery, from water shortages to inadequate healthcare, and highlighted the struggles of communities in mining areas who face forced removals, loss of land and, in some cases, death.
ZPP further condemned companies that violate labour and human rights, calling for strict punishment for offenders. They appealed to government, Parliament, traditional leaders, civil society and businesses to work together to protect the rights of all Zimbabweans.
