A man who had been on the run for almost a year following a brutal attempted murder has been arrested, thanks to a tip-off from members of the public.

Lamek Mguni of Burnside was arrested on 4 December 2025 after police received information about his whereabouts. The incident dates back to 17 September 2024, when Mguni allegedly attacked a man with an iron bar, leaving the victim critically injured.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the arrest, saying Mguni had initially been arrested and appeared in court in January 2025, before escaping by jumping from the first floor of the courthouse.

Police later established that he fled Bulawayo and went into hiding in Spring Village, Nyamandlovu, where he was eventually tracked down.

Inspector Msebele praised the community for working closely with police, saying public cooperation remains key in fighting crime and keeping communities safe.
