243 youths have graduated from the 2025 Vocational Skills Training Programme, in a ceremony that was held on Thursday at the Large City Hall.

The number marks a drop from last year’s 352 graduates, but officials say the programme continues to make a meaningful contribution to youth empowerment. Since its establishment, the initiative has produced a total of 916 certified graduates.

The programme offers hands-on training in hairdressing, beauty therapy, welding, hotel and catering, carpentry, motor mechanics and solar installation, targeting young people and out-of-school learners.

Speaking at the ceremony yesterday, Assistant Director in the vocational skills training programme, Mrs Sibindi said the training aligns with national development goals by equipping youths with practical, market-ready skills for self-employment and entry into the formal job market.

Founded in 1950, the programme has evolved from youth clubs into a fully-fledged vocational training centre.
