Award-winning artist MJ Sings has hailed the Bulawayo Arts Awards for playing a key role in elevating local talent and shaping his music career.
The artist, who recently scooped the Outstanding Kwaito, House, Gqom and Amapiano Artist award, says the platform has helped him gain recognition both in Bulawayo and on the national stage.
“The Bulawayo Arts Awards have given artists like myself a platform to be seen and heard,” said MJ Sings. “Being recognised by BAA validated my work and motivated me to push harder, not only for Bulawayo but for Zimbabwe as a whole.”
He noted that the awards continue to expand the reach of local creatives, with their work increasingly attracting audiences beyond Zimbabwe’s borders.
“The BAA is opening doors for emerging artists to access wider opportunities and exposure,” he said. “Our music is now travelling, and that’s a big win for the city’s creative industry.”
MJ Sings added that platforms such as the BAA have helped raise standards within the arts sector by promoting professionalism, creativity and collaboration.
“These awards encourage artists to take their craft seriously,” he said. “They inspire healthy competition and collaboration, which ultimately strengthens the entertainment industry.”
Reflecting on his journey, the artist said his music continues to resonate with both young and old audiences, a success he attributes to staying true to himself.
“I’ve learned that authenticity matters,” said MJ Sings. “When you create music that people can relate to, it naturally connects across generations.”
He encouraged upcoming artists to remain consistent and make use of available platforms, saying recognition often comes through perseverance and dedication.
