Zimbabwe suffered a narrow 2–1 defeat to Egypt in a tense 2025 AFCON Group B encounter, going down to a late goal despite a spirited and disciplined display.

The Warriors shocked the Pharaohs in the 20th minute when Prince Dube finished calmly inside the box after a precise cross from Emmanuel Jalai, giving Zimbabwe an unexpected lead against the run of play.

Egypt dominated possession, but Zimbabwe defended bravely, with Gerald Takwara producing key blocks and goalkeeper Washington Arubi making several important saves to keep the Warriors ahead at the break.

The pressure eventually told in the second half, as Omar Marmoush equalised in the 64th minute. Heartbreak followed in stoppage time when Mohamed Salah struck to seal victory for Egypt.

The result leaves Egypt level on points with Group B leaders South Africa, who beat Angola 2–1.
