The Content Creators Network of Zimbabwe has welcomed the government’s announcement of a US$10 million fund dedicated to local content creation.
The initiative is seen as recognition of the sector’s role in preserving and promoting Zimbabwean culture, though the network remains cautiously optimistic.
Speaking to Skyzmetro FM, Kudzayi Zvinavashe, the organiser of the network, said that similar initiatives in the past have often failed to fully materialise or benefit the wider creative community, highlighting the need for careful planning and implementation.
“In the past, similar initiatives have often failed to materialise and I think careful planning as well as implementation is crucial for it to succeed,” he said.
Zvinarashe said the fund has the potential to support hundreds of heritage-focused content projects and contribute to professionalising the industry.
“I think the fund has the potential to support hundreds of heritage-based content creators and eventually contribute to professionalising the industry,” Zvinarashe said.
He further highlighted that clear allocation mechanisms should be crucial to ensure the resources benefit creators.
“In order for resources to be allocated fairly, clear measures should be in place,” he said.
