Zimbabwean endurance walker Prince Ncube, popularly known as Dr Gasolo, says his participation in the Cape to Cairo walk offers a global platform to promote African culture, youth empowerment and tourism.

Dr Gasolo, who launched the Dr Gasolo Long Walk to Success in 2022, says the continental journey is part of a broader vision to grow the initiative into an international movement, while also showcasing Bulawayo as a cultural hub and highlighting Zimbabwe’s heritage.

Speaking to SkyzMetro FM, Dr Gasolo said the walk challenges negative perceptions about Africa by sharing authentic African stories, values and traditions along the route.

Dr Gasolo added that the initiative promotes tourism, strengthens continental unity, and encourages young people to pursue opportunities in sport and education.

The walking team, led by American endurance walker Eddie Bond, spent last night in Figtree. Dr Gasolo is expected to rejoin the group today as they proceed to Bulawayo, where a welcome event is planned to be held at Mumsie’s Kitchen on Fife Street and Second Avenue in the afternoon.
