Zimbabwe is set to take centre stage in global tourism, securing a key United Nations meeting that could boost the country’s profile, investment prospects, and influence ahead of a major international tourism year in 2027.

Zimbabwe will host the first-ever UN Tourism organising meeting involving all member states, as preparations begin for the International Year of Sustainable and Resilient Tourism in 2027.

Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Barbara Rwodzi confirmed this after signing a Letter of Intent with UN Tourism Secretary-General Shaikha Alnuwais. The agreement paves the way for Zimbabwe to host the 23rd UN Tourism Committee on Tourism and Sustainability meeting in Victoria Falls from the 27th to the 28th of April 2026.

The meeting will run alongside the third UN Tourism Women in Tourism Congress, scheduled from the 28th to the 30th of April.

UN Tourism also praised First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa for promoting gastronomy tourism, while Minister Rwodzi was commended following Forbes’ listing of Zimbabwe as a top global destination for 2025.
