Zimbabwe’s continued low ranking on the 2025 Corruption Perceptions Index could weigh heavily on investor confidence and the country’s debt resolution efforts, Transparency International Zimbabwe (TIZ) has warned.
Launching the 2025 CPI alongside more than 125 Transparency International chapters worldwide, TIZ says Zimbabwe scored 22 out of 100, a one-point increase from 21 in 2024.
The global index assesses perceived levels of public-sector corruption in over 180 countries, using expert assessments and business surveys.
Despite the marginal improvement, Zimbabwe remains below the Sub-Saharan Africa regional average of 32, highlighting what TI Z describes as persistent governance and accountability challenges.
The organisation says corruption in public resource management continues to undermine political integrity and service delivery, particularly affecting vulnerable communities.
TIZ acknowledges government efforts, including the establishment of specialised anti-corruption courts and steps toward domestic asset recovery. However, it says stronger international cooperation is needed to trace and repatriate illicit financial flows.
