Air travel and security in Dubai were briefly disrupted after reported retaliatory strikes by Iran caused minor damage at Dubai International Airport and near the Burj Al Arab, authorities say.

Officials in Dubai confirmed that a section of Dubai International Airport sustained limited damage on Sunday. Four workers were injured. Most passengers had already been cleared from the affected area before the incident.

Emergency services responded quickly and operations were stabilised.

Authorities also say debris from a drone intercepted near the Burj Al Arab caused a small external fire, which was extinguished. No serious injuries were reported.

Security has since been heightened, and investigations are underway.
