Taurai Prosper Vanhuvaone, who posed as a doctor under the alias “Dr. Prosper Mpofu,” has been sentenced to seven years in prison by the Bulawayo Magistrates Court for fraud and impersonation.

He operated at Mpilo Central Hospital and UBH, deceiving both staff and patients.

His victims include Samantha Ziki, defrauded of US$1,600 in a fake nursing scheme, and Faith Hove, charged US$120 for bogus medical services.

Vanhuvaone claimed peer pressure pushed him into impersonating a doctor and pleaded for a non-custodial sentence. The prosecution argued for prison time, citing public endangerment and loss of trust in healthcare.

The court ruled that if he repays the defrauded money by 30 July, Vanhuvaone will serve an effective 3 years and 6 months of the sentence.
