The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has confirmed it is limiting the number of subjects learners can take, in a move aimed at improving learning quality and reducing pressure on students.
Under the new policy, O-Level learners will write a maximum of nine subjects, while A-Level students will take only three.
The change follows the Heritage-Based Curriculum, which prioritises deep understanding over subject overload.
The policy drew attention after Pamushana High School student Mukudzei Ziveyi scored 56 points after sitting 12 A-Level subjects last year.
However, Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education spokesperson Taungana Ndoro said the limits are already in place to reduce burnout and align A-Level subjects with university entry requirements.
Ndoro added that improved pass rates reflect better teaching and learner commitment, not inflated results.
