Guruve Rapist Jailed 89 Years

A Guruve man has been sentenced to an effective 89 years in prison after pleading guilty to 10 counts of rape, attempted murder and one count of robbery.

Anymore Zvitsva admitted to the offences during court proceedings, bringing to an end a case that had alarmed communities in the district.

The court heard that the crimes involved multiple attacks targeting women in Guruve. The guilty plea resulted in the matter being finalised without a full trial.

Prosecutors said the sentence reflects the seriousness of gender-based violence and the courts’ position on repeat sexual offenders.

Police credited investigations and victim testimonies for securing the conviction, while the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe urged survivors of gender-based violence to report cases promptly.
