887 people were arrested on Monday in Bulawayo for failing to comply with the level 4 lockdown regulations which were put in place by President Emmerson Mnangagwa last week.
Provincial Police Spokesperson , Inspector Abednico Ncube , urged members of the public to comply with the rules and regulations to curb the spread of the Covid19 virus.
” 754 were arrested for not wearing face masks and not wearing them properly, 2 were arrested for failing to comply with business operation times , 93 were arrested for failing to comply with the road traffic act, 11 for moving around after the curfew and others for drinking in shabeens. ”
Meanwhile Inspector Ncube dismissed allegations made by some informal traders that there are law enforcers requesting for bribes from them so that they operate freely.
Inspector Ncube said that there have been cases of people around the CBD masquerading as police officers soliciting bribes from unsuspecting vendors and pirate taxi drivers .
” However we have rogue police officers within our ranks who take advantage of the situation and put the name of the police into disrepute “, said Inspector Ncube .
