Zimbabwe coasted to a two day, 10-wicket victory against Afghanistan in the first Test in Abu Dhabi on the back of a Sean Williams century and a terrific all-round bowling performance.
The victory was Zimbabwe’s 13th in Test history , their last Test win came in 2018 against Bangladesh. Zimbabwe’s skipper Sean Williams, scored a masterful 105 to anchor his side to a 119-run lead. He was ably supported by Regis Chakabva who made 44 runs, while Blessing Muzarabani in his second test made 12 runs.
Afghanistan finally bundled out Zimbabwe for 250. Trailing by 119 runs, Afghanistan were all out for 135 in their second essay, Donald Tiripano took 3 wickets for 23 runs and Victor Nyauchi took 3 wickets for 30 runs as they restricted Afghanistan for 135 all out giving Zimbabwe only 16 runs to complete a facile win.
Zimbabwe captain Sean Williams spoke on the match after their win.
“We have won a test match in two days its an extreme victory for us as a team , it is an unbelieavable feeling it is important that we stay humble now , we still have a test match to go ,we enjoy it for a day or so and then back on it.”
Williams also spoke on his captains innings of 105 that led Zimbabwe to victory.
“It gives me a lot of responsibility as a senior player as i get older and taking on all responsibility as captain , as a senior player obviously i started to understand more of my leadership skills , my performance and how important it is to work as a team through tough times . As a leader you can not really show weakness you have to be strong and that is a big thing for me.”
The second test will be from 10 to 15 March before the three match T20 Series which begins on the 17th of March
