Tsholotsho District in Matebeleland North Province becomes the second district to have Environmental Management Agency (EMA) offices commissioned in the province . Binga was the first district to have an EMA office which was commissioned last year .
The Minister of Environment, Climate , Tourism and Hospitality Industry Nqobizitha Mangaliso Ndlovu who officially opened the offices in the district on Friday , whilst speaking to Skyz Metro FM news said that the government is keen on devolving the critical service of environmental awareness as well as environmental protection.
” Government is cognisant that every district has environmental issues and the availability of EMA offices which will be accessible to the public will enable it to react much quicker and to proactively deal with issues before they degenerate,” he said.
According to the minister the EMA offices will be established in all districts in the country .
“There are ongoing construction in three other districts and we are targeting to have these offices in all the districts . We have land already in Lupane and we are happy that in Mat North the provincial office will be constructed as a matter of urgency . The next office to be commissioned is in Umzingwane they told me that it will be ready for commissioning in two months time .”
The offices in every district will have WIFI where the community will access together with officers who will be helping them on understanding government policies on the environment or any other emerging environmental issues.
