A Fawcett security guard was shot in the head with an AK 47 rifle, when a gang of armed robbers broke into the security company’s premises near Belmont on Monday.
According to the Fawcett Security Managing Director , Mr Andrew Laing, a group of 5 or more robbers ,broke into the premises and attacked the alarms reaction crew.
” In Bulawayo’s Industrial Sites last night , our Alarms Reaction Team was attacked by five or more armed robbers who had broken into the premises and were preparing to blow the safe . Two of our staff were injured , fortunately seriously . One was shot in the head , apparently with an AK47 rifle , though the bullet creased the skull and the injury is not life threatening, ” said Laing.
He however indicated that they were working with the police to review their systems and equipment as they anticipated more similar attacks.
” We certainly anticipate more similar incidents and in liason with the police we are continually reviewing systems and equipment to counter the threat . Obviously i will not disclose the details .”

Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Abedinico Ncube confirmed the robbery and said investigations were ongoing.
