Government announces phased reopening of schools

Following the lifting of the national lockdown restrictions, Government has announced that schools will reopen in a phased manner with exam classes commencing on March 15 2021 and the rest of the classes resuming on March 22.

Addressing the media during the post Cabinet briefing yesterday evening, Minister of Information Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Monica Mutsvangwa said teachers for examination classes Grade 7, Form 4 and Upper 6 should report for duty on 10 March 2021 and the rest of the teachers on 17 March 2021.

Minister Mutsvangwa added that there shall be rotational school attendance.

“There shall be rotational school attendance in classes where learners cannot exercise social distancing. On the days when learners are not at school, they will be engaged through strategies such as open distance learning and e-learning.”

She Further said relevant modules are already under production and among the catch up strategies all continuing classes will start with 2020 work.

“Syllabuses have been compressed to facilitate accelerated coverage. Both primary and secondary school levels will follow three levels of accelerated compressed syllabus coverage.”
