Government has advised new producer prices for strategic crops for the 2021/ 2022 marketing season for the Grain Marketing Board (GMB ) to purchase grain from commercial farmers.
Speaking to Skyz Metro FM news GMB CEO Rockie Mutenha confirmed the development saying that the maize and Soya beans maintained last year’s price.
” The price for strategic crops which include maize is now pegged at ZW$ 32 000 per metric tonne , traditional grains which include Rapoko, Millet and Sorghum are now pegged at ZW$ 37 000 per metric tonne while Soya Beans is now ZW $48 000 per metric tonne maintaining last seasons price.”
Sugar beans will be sold at $90 000 per metric tonne, groundnuts $40 000, sunflower $40 000, nyimo $50 000, popcorn $42 000, cow peas $32 500 and Sesame seeds $70 000.
He however encouraged farmers to dry their maize using dryers and take samples of their grain to GMB deport for moisture testing.
Mutenha indicated that the GMB has received so far close to 400 tonnes of maize from farmers.
Obert Chinhamo a farmer who spoke to our reporter said that the producer prices announced by the government were fair.
” This is a fair price and as a farmer i am happy with it and i believe my colleagues in the industry will not have any problems with the new prices .”
