Government re-introduces Covid 19 prevention measures

Government has announced a raft of measures meant to curb the spread and transmission of the coronavirus in the wake of the Omicron variant .

In the state of the nation address on Tuesday evening , H.E President Emmerson Mnangagwa , said the measures which are effective immediately have been put place to protect the nation from the likely impact of the fourth wave .

“It is in this view that government has decided on new enhanced measures to strengthen national response and protect our nation from the impact of the likely fourth wave which the new variant Omicron will moist certainly aggravate . With immediate effect the following measure will now apply ;

All returning residents and visitors have to undergo PCR testing, and will be quarantined, at own cost, for days recommended by WHO, even if they present a negative PCR test results from elsewhere.

A daily Curfew, running from 9pm to 6am, will be imposed to limit movement and transmission. Only essential services categories announced in previous gazettes stand exempted.

All shops will open for business from 0700 Hours and will close for business by 1900 Hours . The Number and behaviour of all persons attending any gathering must observe and comply with W.H.O protocols such as masking, social distancing and sanitising.

All Covid-19 related Funerals will strictly be supervised by Ministry of Health and Child Care Environmental Health Officers and Technicians . No liquor will be consumed at bottle stores, which consequently cease to be drinking premises until further notice.

Night Clubs and bars will admit Vaccinated clients only. Restaurants are now required to close at 1900 hours “.

The president urged all those eligible for Covid-19 vaccination to get vaccinated.

The measures will be reviewed after two weeks .

Meanwhile 399 New local cases of the virus and 1 Death have been reported by the Ministry of Health and Child Care. The 7-day rolling average for new cases rose to 131 from 79 the previous day .

58 of these cases were detected in learning institutions Manicaland reported 35 cases , Mat North 16 cases , Byo 5 cases and Masvingo 2 cases.

To date Zimbabwe has recorded 134 625 Cases 128 747 recoveries and 4 707 Deaths
