Gwanda Provincial Hospital receives Haemodialysis machine

Gwanda Provincial Hospital on Monday received a Haemodialysis machine to help address kidney failure challenges in Matebeleland South Province.

The machine worth US$15 000 was donated by Stanbic Bank of Zimbabwe.

Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in Matebeleland South Province , Hon. Abednico Ncube in a speech read on his behalf by , Mrs Lathiso Dlamini the Provincial Coordinator, said that the donation had come at the right time .

“Ladies and gentlemen this donation has come at an opportune time when the hospital is at the peak of improving service delivery in line with the National Health Strategy to control Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) as part of the implementation of devolution . Government is determined to decentralise health facilities and bring the services closer to the people . Gwanda Provincial Hospital Renal Unit currently serves clients from Insiza district and some from as far as Beitbridge “.

Provincial Medical Director for Matebeleland South Province , Dr Rudo Chikodzore said that the recent donation will help in the accessibility of hemodialysis medical services thereby reducing the weight on Bulawayo’s Marter Dei Hospital which had the only machine in the region.

“Renal failure can be very distressing for the patients and family especially when you know that treatment is inaccessible or very far . This donation therefore addresses the issue of accessibility making renal dialysis more accessible to the community in the province .

Stanbic Bank has led by example by showing that health issues are to be tackled by everyone complimenting governments efforts to fully equip our facilities . We were going through our 2022 planning and it came to light that we need to equip our facilities to offer services as expected ” , said Dr Chikodzore.

Head of Banking and Marketing, Mr Palmer Mugavha , said the bank was fulfilling its Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiative which is not only aligned to the health sector but also covers education and the environment.

“Today we are donating a Haemodialysis machine to your institution as part of Stanbic Banks Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiatives in line with one of our strategic pillars of health and sanitation. Our health related CSI initiatives fall under our Usizo /Ruyambuko program , which seeks to play a pivotal role in supporting our country to address pressing pubic health needs for its people .

In ight of the above we established Usizo /Ruyambuko were we bring on board likeminded corporates and other stakeholders to put all hands on deck and assist improving health services through the provision of machines , drugs and other facilities ” , he said .
