Police in Bulawayo arrested Zenzo Benoni Moyo (36) from lminyela suburb for stealing solar batteries worth USD 14 000.
Bulawayo Police Spokesperson , Inspector Abednico Ncube , at a press briefing held at the Bulawayo Central Police Station on Wednesday morning revealed that the batteries were stolen at Pfumugwe Clinic in Matobo and Stanmore Clinic in Gwanda.
” Police received a tip off from residents about Moyo who was selling batteries and police lured him as buyers. The batteries were being sold in rural areas and some being traded in exchange for beasts. Moyo was then arrested and nine batteries were recovered . The case has been referred to Gwanda police station , ” said Inspector Ncube .
Inspector Ncube urged members of the public to desist from purchasing stolen property.
“I would like to warn thieves that Bulawayo is not a place to store stolen goods or property. I want to also urge members of the public not to buy goods that they will not be issued with a receipt or a license .They should inform the police if they come across such people . If you are found with received stolen property members of the public will be arrested, ” said Inspector Ncube.
