Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund hands over 2020 donations.

The Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund handed over proceeds from the 2020 fundraising in the form of groceries, stationary and blankets to charity homes .

At a ceremony held at the Small City Hall on Thursday, homes which included Reisten home, Ekuphumuleni old people’s home, Luveve training school for girls, Percy Ibboston, Luveve remand home, Emthunzini Wethemba, Entembeni old people’s home, Queen Elizabeth children’s home, Khayelihle children’s home, St Francis children’s home, Thorn groove hospital, Thuthuka, John Slavene and the city of Bulawayo educating system received an early Christmas gift.

Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Ward 1, Mlandu Ncube , speaking at the ceremony appreciated the support and dedication from the sponsors and well wishers in helping the less fortunate.

“I would like to thank the Board of Trustees for the Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund for their dedication support and hard work towards the success of this event.

May I also take this opportunity to thank the donors and corporates for their donations which have enabled us to give to the disadvantaged members of the community.

The Covid 19 pandemic might have changed our lives completely but the one thing that has not changed is the spirit of Ubuntu.

Lending a helping hand to the less fortunate will always be a blessing”.

One of the representatives of the charity homes benefitting charity homes , Simangele Ncube , said they were happy with the donations as they were facing challenges to maintain the standards of catering for the elderly.

“Thina sithabile kakhulu ngoba ieconomy isinzima ukuthi sigcine ogogo labo khulu bethu abagulayo. Kunzima ukuthi sibatholele ukudla , imithi kanye lokukhudumalayo. Siyabonga kakhulu”.

Meanwhile the local authority is expected to launch on Friday the 2021 Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund.
