Bulawayo province has embarked on consultations to come up with its Provincial Development Strategic Plan inline with the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) with revival of industry being its top priority.
The government launched the National Development Strategic Plan (NDS1) which is the first 5-year medium term Plan aimed at realising the country’s vision 2030, while simultaneously addressing the global aspirations of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Africa Agenda 2063.
Following the launch at national level, each province is therefore expected to come up with it’s priorities which are in line with the national interest.
Presenting proposed developmental priorities during the first day of the week long consultative workshop in Bulawayo on Monday , the Provincial Development Coordinator Paul Nyoni said the province proposed seven key areas that prioritise infrastructural development and resuscitating industries such as leather manufacturing sector to revive the economy.
” Bulawayo has a critical role to play to retain its status as the country’s industrial hub. I proposed that specific stakeholders be given the mandate to contribute in the delivery of proposals. The infrastructure and development theme will be headed by the local government and public works department while the economic development theme will be headed by the Ministry of finance. The Agritex chair will lead the value chain structural transformation theme. Tertiary institutions and the Grain Marketing Board will lead the food security sector. The social welfare department was proposed to be the leading arm in terms of social development in the province and the Youth Ministry will be in charge of the cross cutting sector.”
Nyoni said the thematic proposals although they are specifically for Bulawayo, should reflect on the national vision 2030 of being an upper middle income economy.
