Veteran football administrator and Highlanders President , Ndumiso Emmanuel Gumede , was laid to rest at his rural home in Inyathi on Tuesday.
Gumede succumbed to a kidney failure on the 29th of December 2021 .
Addressing mourners at the burial ceremony , sister to the late, Cephekile Fuyana described her brother as a giant because of the works he did in his lifetime .
” I want to talk about the man who is a giant that has fallen . The man who was a loving man who never segregated family members from one another . Ndumiso made sure that the family was united and close to each other at all times. He was a funny man that we all loved”.
One of his close friends Nivart Songo described him as responsible ,active man who carried out all the tasks he was assigned.
“He was responsible for cleanliness and entertainment at Gweru Teachers College . He had experience from youth clubs in Bulawayo and our house became a hit in providing entertainment and sports .They nicknamed him administrator as a student. He showed great leadership qualities as a first year student and was voted to lead the students council”.
Member of Parliament for Bubi District, Honourable Sonny Key Mguni, stated that Gumede was a friend to all, a rare breed.
” He was a father and a mentor who was open to help and nurturing young people and molding them to become great characters. His family should be proud of having given birth to such a man who played a critical role in the development of others”.
The late also served in the Zimbabwe Football association (ZIFA) as its vice president from 1980 to 1983.
