Victoria Falls Town Clerk Granted bail

Victoria Falls Town Clerk Ronnie Dube who is facing a criminal abuse of office charge was granted ZWL 50 000 bail on Monday .

Appearing before Hwange Provincial Magistrate Gladmore Mushove Dube was released on conditions that he surrenders his travel documents to the court, report to ZRP Victoria Falls once every fortnight on Fridays until finalisation of his case and not to interfere with State witnesses . He is also expected to stay at his given address and surrender title deeds of his Bulawayo property.

His case was remanded to 10 June.

Allegations against Dube are that in September 2017, he received a request to purchase additional land from Ntokozo Mlilo, Group Human Resources Manager, Shearwater Adventures Victoria Falls.

He then caused for the evaluation of stand by Backtone Properties who responded to him on 11 February 2019 with the value of the stand.

Dube is alleged to have went on to misrepresent to Victoria Falls Ordinary Full Council meeting through a Town’s Clerk’s report, that only one applicant; Shearwater Victoria Falls had expressed interest to acquire a commercial stand number 1782 Victoria Falls, yet in the actual fact there were other companies that had also expressed interest such as Wild Horizons.

The State further alleged that Dube in the exercise of his duties or functions as such, intentionally influenced Council, through his report, to sale commercial stand number 1782 Victoria Falls without following tender procedures which was contrary or inconsistent with his duty as a public officer.

Dube was last week suspended without pay and benefits by the City’s Mayor Councillor Somveli Dlamini on allegations of corruption .
