Residents in Ward 12 have raised concerns to the Bulawayo City Council on the issue of abandoned beerhalls lying idle in the surrounding communities with a number of them requesting that the facilities be revamped to income generating project halls such as flea markets.

Speaking during the Consultation budget Meeting, Njube residents association secretary Mr Edward Tondori said the beerhalls should be used for other purposes.

” Disused beerhalls must be changed into flea markets to provide the people with venues to embark on income generating projects at the same time it is a way for the City Council to accumulate funds to boost some areas which need upgrading.”

Speaking during the same meeting , one of the residents from Old Lobengula said that there is need to change the beer halls into project centers which will empower and promote engagement by the youths in the communities where many of them are unemployed.

The Bulawayo City Council have set the budget for the upcoming year with the revenue budget standing at ZWL$ 16,834,864,215 and the capital budget at ZWL$ 7,906,290,288 with the total Budget set to be ZWL$24,741,154,503 for the year 2022.
