Ward 6 Councillor Tawanda Ruzive over the weekend gave out food hampers to the taskforce of his ward which consists of Newton west, Bellevue and Barham Green among others as a token of appreciation for the hard work he said he noticed especially in the light of Covid 19.

Ruzive reiterated that he noticed with great concern the hard work being done by the taskforce of his ward which is segmented to health and security.

The taskforce which has seven chairpersons converged at a venue in Barham Green where they received their early Christmas from their Councillor.

Ward 6 Councillor said he decided to change the theme from last year where he gave out food hampers to the elderly and the vulnerable , and focusing on appreciating the tireless work of his taskforce team.

“This year we changed the theme, last year we focused on the elderly and vulnerable, but this year I saw it fit to appreciate the work being done by the ward ward 4 Taskforce, who work tirelessly without a salary” Ruzive said.

Speaking to our senior reporter Sibonginkosi Maphosa on the sidelines of the event , the chairperson of ward 6 taskforce, Mthandazo Dube said in as much they have success stories in their ward, they still had challenges of people who deny to comply with Covid 19 protocols and urged people from her ward to work with community health workers to curb the spread of COVID-19 in their ward .

“We have recorded numerous success stories especially on the security side, but we are still having challenges on ensuring that people from our ward follow Covid 19 protocols as some still do not want to wear masks ” She echoed.

In his closing remarks Councillor Ruzive urged people from his ward to continue with the spirit of love and working together for the betterment of their ward.

” Let’s continue working together for the betterment of our ward, let’s keep the spirit of love, care and unity as we get into the new year” he said.

Newton west in ward 6 this year saw an introduction of a strong and vigilant neighborhood watch committee , the refurbishment of street lights which were not working for over 5 years and the patching of roads.
