The Zimbabwe Alternative Mining Indaba (ZAMI) open door session kicked off on Monday in Bulawayo to address public resources management especially in the mining sector.
The annual event which is running under the theme, “Amplifying Community Voices for Accountability and Transparency in Natural Resource Governance in Zimbabwe,” is organised by the Zimbabwe Coalition on debt and Development(ZIMCODD), Zimbabwe Environmental Law Association(ZELA) and the Zimbabwe Council of Churches.
ZIMCODD Programs Manager, Mr John Makhetho, said that the indaba seeks to come up with solutions of properly managing resources which act as catalyst to boost the economy in Zimbabwe.
“The view that if properly managed our mineral resources will be able to catapult the economy in Zimbabwe moving towards attaining Vision 2030. The emphasis is on domestic resource mobilisation and the proper use of our natural minerals endowments and the co-existence of mining activities with communities ” , said Makhetho
ZELA representative , Joyce Mashiri , said that the indaba is to reflect on issues of development, transparency ,accountability and good management of the natural resources.
“They are different campaigns that talk on issues of development and also issues of transparency and accountability .This is all about good governance , management of natural resources and enables us as different organisations to work for a common cause in advocacy issues”.
This is the 10th edition of the Indaba which ends on Friday.
