Police Seek Public Assistance in Ongoing US$4 Million Ecobank Robbery Investigation

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is urging the public to assist in the ongoing investigation of the Ecobank robbery in Bulawayo, where USD 4 million was stolen.

The heist, which occurred on the 3rd of October involved armed robbers overpowering a Safeguard security driver and making off with six trunks filled with cash.

Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the national spokesperson for the ZRP, implored anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing that even the smallest detail could lead to a breakthrough in the case.

He cited that the police are working tirelessly to bring the culprits to justice and ensure the safety of the community.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is still conducting investigations. The public should not panic. We are hot on the trails of follow ups and enquiries, “ he said.

Nyathi also cautioned the public against believing the swirling rumors circulating on social media regarding the alleged capture of the robbers, reiterating that such misinformation only hampers the investigation.

“We also caution agaisnt sending false information like what we have seen on social media where some are coming up with all sorts of insinuatiions and are saying the suspects have been shot dead which is not the case,” he added.

He emplored the public to help solve the case by coming forward with any information that may assist in the capture of the criminals.
