A security guard stationed at the Beitbridge Border Post has been convicted and sentenced for attempting to bribe law enforcement officers.

The guard was fined US$400 or, in default of payment, will serve two months in prison.

The incident occurred on 2 April 2025, after two individuals were arrested for smuggling a vehicle bearing a stolen number plate. In an attempt to secure the release of the vehicle, the security guard offered R950 to Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officers.

The officers rejected the bribe and arrested the guard on the spot. The money offered was forfeited to the state.
