Mpilo Central Hospital has received a major boost to its healthcare services with the donation of four orthopedic beds from Nedbank Zimbabwe.

This gesture is part of Nedbank’s ongoing commitment to strengthening healthcare provisions within the community.

Speaking at the handover ceremony today, Nedbank Head of Sales Mr Harry Harise highlighted the critical need for such specialized equipment. He expressed concern that Mpilo had previously been forced to use ordinary beds due to a lack of resources, acknowledging that the corporate community certainly can do more.

“I had to go through a small lecture from Dr. Matanga, what the orthopedic beds are all about,” Harise remarked. “And certainly, they will come in handy. I think from what he was telling me, that Mpilo was using ordinary beds because there were no resources.”

Harise acknowledged the wider corporate responsibility to support such vital institutions.

“I think certainly, it’s a bad reflection on us as the corporate community, because we certainly can do more. But we believe that with a small gesture, it will go a long way in terms of providing and alleviating the stress and the pain.” He further noted Mpilo’s extensive catchment area, serving patients not only from Bulawayo but also from as far as the Midlands.

The donation also holds particular significance for Nedbank, a prominent sponsor of various sports. Harise pointed out the frequent limb and leg injuries sustained by athletes in disciplines like rugby, netball, and cycling, suggesting the beds could also benefit sports persons in the future. “We are not here to speechify, but we are just here to extend our gratitude and a small hand of ourselves for our contribution,” he concluded.

Mpilo Hospital’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr Narcisius Dzvanga, expressed profound gratitude for the donation, stating that the new orthopedic beds would hugely assist the hospital in its daily operations and enhance patient care.

The newly acquired beds are expected to play a vital role in improving the quality of care for patients requiring specialized orthopedic support, marking a positive step forward for healthcare services in Bulawayo and Matebeleland region as a whole.
