ZANU-PF candidate Delani Moyo has been declared the duly elected Member of Parliament for the Insiza North constituency in Matebeleland South, following a recent by-election held to fill the vacant seat.
The seat became open after the unfortunate passing of Cde Farai Taruvinga, who succumbed to cancer.
According to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), Moyo secured a commanding victory, garnering 7 171 votes. The by-election saw three other candidates vying for the seat. Leslie Dube, running as an independent, received 1,187 votes.
Thabani Mlotshwa of ZAPU Party managed 114 votes, while Mbongeni Moyo, also representing ZANU-PF, secured 131 votes.
The election, overseen by constituency elections officer Iwani Dube, saw 84 rejected ballot papers, representing 35.9% of the total votes cast.
Moyo’s victory ensures that ZANU-PF retains the Insiza North seat in the National Assembly.
