A devastating road accident has claimed the lives of three members of the Sekusile Sitshikitsha dance group, which was representing Matabeleland South Province at the Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival in Mutare.
The accident occurred on July 20, 2025, on the Gweru-Bulawayo highway as the group was traveling home.
The deceased have been identified as Ms. S. Mpofu, Ms. I.T. Mike, and Mr. L. Mazara, all dedicated performers employed by How Mine in Mzingwane District. Several other group members sustained injuries and are receiving medical care.
In a press statement, the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ), Zimbabwe Traditional Dancers Association (ZNTDA), and Delta Beverages, the organizers of the festival, extended their deepest condolences to the families of the deceased.
The tripartite partners have pledged to provide support to the families and keep the public informed about the status of the injured and bereaved.
The loss of these talented artists has left an irreplaceable void in the artistic community. The NACZ, ZNTDA, and Delta Beverages stand in solidarity with the Sekusile Sitshikitsha dance group as they deal with the aftermath of this tragic incident.
