Starting this December, the Victoria Falls and Chirundu border posts between Zimbabwe and Zambia will begin operating 24 hours a day.

The move aims to boost trade, tourism, and the smooth movement of people and goods between the two countries.

Zimbabwe’s Chief Immigration Director, Respect Gono, says the change supports regional trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area, making it easier for travellers and transporters to cross borders at any time.

The Victoria Falls border is popular with tourists, while Chirundu handles most truck traffic. Opening them around the clock is expected to ease congestion, speed up deliveries, and cut business costs.

Both governments are now finalising staffing, systems, and security arrangements to ensure the new 24 hour border operations run smoothy.
