The City of Bulawayo held a breast cancer awareness event at the Large City Hall yesterday, under the theme “Every Story is Unique, Every Journey Matters.”

The event brought together survivors who shared their experiences to encourage others and raise awareness.

One of the survivors, Pamidzai Taka, said her journey began in 2017 when she discovered a lump under her arm. After medical checks, she was diagnosed with cancer , a moment she described as life-changing.

“The support from my family gave me the strength to go through chemotherapy and surgery, even after learning the disease had spread to my lungs”said Taka.

Another survivor, Precious Mpofu, said being told she had cancer felt like a nightmare. After surgery and months of treatment, she completed chemotherapy and radiotherapy with her family’s support.

She encouraged others not to fear the disease.”Cancer is not a death sentence ,”she said.”Stay strong, seek treatment early and get support.”

The event highlighted the importance of early screening, family support, and spreading hope in the fight against cancer.
